Description

I really had to dig deep on this one. The weather has really gotten me down. I've only managed one night in the past 6 weeks. For most of that time, I've owned a new mount, and a growing pile of extra goodies to try out. Like I did with my NGC891, I sifted back through old sessions to see what I had captured in the past, but not processed. I happened upon this sequence that was caught last March! I never processed this because I felt like it needed more integration time. And... this is a true statement.

But in the drought of my imaging, I really needed to do something so I gave this a go. It was another lesson in fixing up bad data. From egged stars to blotchy color, this one had it all. I think I need to cook up some tutorials on how I go about "fixing" all this in PI and PS. I'm not sure if its worthwhile or not, but I can't be the only one that has to deal with such things.

Processing this lonely fellow, I really got the feeling that it was quite separated from any neighbors. Even the Milky Way stars in the foreground are pretty sparse. There are a handful of distant background galaxies visible. The galaxy itself has an interesting delicate outer ring that I was just barely able to separate out of the background and a tiny elliptical central bar. More time would definitely do it justice. This was back when I was shooting f/10 with the stock Canon T1i.
